These soft buns are easy to make, pleasantly fluffy, and perfect for burgers.

Ingredients

  • 500 g flour
  • 1/2 cube fresh yeast
  • 2.5 dl lukewarm water
  • 0.5 dl lukewarm milk
  • 1 egg
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
  • salt
  • 3 tablespoons butter (60 g)
  • 1 egg yolk, for brushing
  • a little cream, for brushing
  • seeds or sea salt, optional for topping

  1. Warm the milk and butter together in a bowl until just lukewarm.
  2. Add the yeast and 1 teaspoon of sugar, leave for a few minutes until the yeast starts to react.
  3. Add the flour and knead the dough.
  4. Add the egg and salt, then knead again until the dough becomes smooth and elastic.
  5. Remove the dough from the bowl, shape it into a ball, place it in a floured bowl, cover with cling film or a damp kitchen towel, and let it rise for about 30 minutes in a warm place.
  6. Line a baking tray with baking paper.
  7. Knead the dough briefly again, divide it into 6-8 pieces, and shape them into balls.
  8. Place the buns on the prepared tray with some space between them and gently flatten them.
  9. Leave them to rise for another 15 minutes, covered. In the meantime, preheat the oven to 200 °C.
  10. Mix the egg yolk with the cream and carefully brush the buns. If you like, sprinkle them with seeds or sea salt.
  11. Bake for about 25 minutes, until golden brown.
  12. The burger buns are best when still slightly warm from the oven.
