Ramanje 2.0: Because everything tastes better when it’s wrapped in golden dough and sprinkled with sesame. 🥟 ✨

There is a special kind of kitchen magic that happens when you open the fridge, look at what is left, and somehow manage to turn it into a meal that feels intentional.

My grandma Šarika used to call that “100 cooks / 100 recipes”. It was her way of saying that there is never just one correct path in the kitchen, especially when you are working with what you already have. My uncle Vili, in true Prekmurje spirit, has an even better phrase for it: ramanje hladilnika.

I love that idea. It is not really about improvisation for the sake of improvisation. It is about noticing what you have, trusting your instincts, and making something good from it. A bit of cheese here, a few tomatoes there, maybe some leftover vegetables, and suddenly the fridge has become a menu.

The best part is that these are often the dishes people remember most. Not because they were planned perfectly, but because they were born from necessity, creativity, and a little bit of kitchen stubbornness.

The chicken recipe I am sharing next comes straight from that spirit. It started as a “let’s see what happens” kind of dish and ended up being one of those meals that feels much fancier than the effort behind it suggests.

And honestly, there is something incredibly satisfying about taking random ingredients and turning them into a meal that looks and tastes like you meant to do it all along.

More “ramanje hladilnika” recipes are definitely coming.
